Tacho cable still freaking leaking was created by KZ1000inaus
ok so ive replace both seals and the whole cable and it's still leaking by dripping out of the engine and down the cable.
I have made sure the cable screws on square as i understand that can be a problem
I'm assuming the seals aren't good enough quality.
any ideas?

Would guess their being an issue involving removal and/or installation of the inner seal that's supposed to prevent oil from escaping around the tach drive shaft.

Perhaps all remnants of the old inner seal weren't completely removed before installing the new seal.
Or maybe the new seal was damaged during installation. Or was improperly installed.

A dental pic is useful when dislodging and picking out all the remnants of an old encrusted, carbonized inner seal. Together with a bright light and magnification to look inside and inspect the interior of the tach housing to assure it's clean and clear before installing the new seal.

Or maybe the new o'ring was damaged during installation of the tach drive housing.

Tach drive should remain completely oil tight even without the cable attached.

Good Fortune! :)

AMEN on getting the old seal out my first attempt was a disaster! I even bought a different tach drive
not realizing I just didnt do a good enough job removing the old inner seal (thought I tore something up)

Hey Craig, I'm guessing that you bought the seals at the same place I did and mine are working fine, so I hope it's just a case of you having to clean the old rubber out a little better, be careful not to scratch anything, a wood tooth pick might work .

The drag is that you have to take the valve cover off again :pinch:

Wipe and clean all the surfaces real good too, and apply a little Yammabond over the end plugs if you've got some handy.

If you use a sealant give it a day to cure before firing her up.

Good luck,JD

I have the same Freakin' problem. I changed it only about 300 miles ago and now leaking again. I was thinking of removing the tach drive and installing one of those block off plates. Anyone having luck with those?

It should not be leaking that quickly. Did you replace all 3 pieces that seal the tach drive? If not, I would suggest you do, as that is the best way to stop the leak. All 3 parts are still available from Kawasaki, so any dealer can get them for you. See highlighted parts below:

Oh it looks like I might be missing the 92065-103 as i don't recall ever seeing that one.
Does it sit in the end of the tacho cable?

It's possible the old one was stuck in your cable connector, it is the last piece to go on before the cable is attached and they're pretty small. Here's a pic:

ive just spoke to my local Z1 parts dealer come expert and he says it's very unlikely that the little missing gasket would stop it leasing as it's the other 2 that do that. he said he cant even remember ever selling one of those.
but he did ask me which way i'd put the other seal in and i said pointy end into engine (the way it looks like it should) which i'm told is the wrong way !
He said I've probably damaged it so i'm gonna get another today and fit it around the right way!!
