Also, I went here: kawasaki.com/kawasakinew/accessories2/PC...82&ModelCode=KZ750N1

and looked at the part diagrams to help me find all the gaskets and o-rings.

Okay, I have the valve cover, cylinder base, and the CCT.

Ill order up the other stuff, I was assuming i could just use the old Cam End Caps, but ill get some, i mean its already apart right? Might as well be like Mike Holmes and take it all down.

The O rings... hrmm.. never even saw any of those.. while taking it apart.. interesting.

Piston Ring Set. .yes, after your last comment about them, i looked online and will order some.

Thank you so much for the help hobodan, i really appreciate it !

LOL.. yes we all love Mike and his make it right attitude.

Looking at that diagram.. I know for a fact there is 92043A cause one fell out and i put it back. There was NO 92055 though, on either side.. so therein lies another problem lol !

Yea, that base gasket was trashed. And +1 on those 92055 seals. Seems like those leak all the time, so replace (or in your case, install, since they weren't there before) while you're in there. Looks like you've made good progress man, I'll be doing this same task just as soon as I scrape a little together to get my service manual and gasket set.

Del_Herring, I found a great price on a whole gasket set here in Canada (comes with everything). If you like, ill see if he has another, and can forward the info to you. I just bought it, because its a whole set, and it would have cost me more just to get the gasket and seals from Z1 (with shipping) I got a whole new set everything included for 68 dollars. (not an athena set)

I just rechecked again, and yes there were no 92055 seals at all... i actually remember looking thinking there should be something there, but oh well i guess there isn't.

As for the service manual..yeah those are pricey. I did find one online, but its dark (pictures) and i need pictures lol !!!

I think e-bay is the place of choice for the service manuals on these guys. If you search Spectre manual it will show up. It's apparently some dude in Australia who seems to have scanned an old one and just re-prints them now. Cost me $50 with shipping (because shipping from Australia costs more). I'll let you know if it's worthwhile once I get it, but his reviews are good, and I'm pretty sure it's the same thing I've seen recomended on this site.

I'd love to know where the gaskets were orderred from. I think it's only $80 for a whole engine gasket kit on Z1, but I haven't checked lately. And I don't know what the difference is on Athena gaskets, nor do I think I've ever actually seen any being sold under the name Athena, but it seems to be what people on this site use.

Yeah I got the manual from the guy in Australia as well... just waiting for it to show, along with my head bearing, cam chain tensioner, and head gasket now.

I tried to use some gasket remover spray and its not working to well, so im going to look for one of those 3M roloc yellow discs to remove it... suppose to the cats behind for doing that !

I got the gasket set from a guy on ebay.. he has many types of gasket sets.. not just for my spectre and they are all brand new unopened. I saved alot on shipping because I live in BC , where he does, and ships from.. so shipping was only a few bucks for me.

Here is the ebay store.. he was really good to deal with, and answered any questions right away. Hopefully this helps others out too..

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI found a set of four piston rings, but they are for a KZ650 on his website. I wonder if they will work on my spectre

www.powersportsplus.com/parts/detail/kaw...i/KP-13008-5046.html (not sure if it depends on standard or spectre, remember im a n00b)

His ebay listing says it matches the part number 13008-059 so im not sure if they would match. I dont want to waste 100 dollars if they arent correct.

Anyone have a manual they can check ?

thanks
jer

Ok, let's take it slow and consider this for a minute. Your signature states you have a KZ750. That means the displacement is approximately 750 cubic centimeters (cc) (actually 738cc in stock trim). A KZ650 has a displacement approximately 650 CC (actually 652cc in stock trim). The difference in displacement is, at least in part, the result of different diameter cylinders/pistons. It should be obvious that the size of piston rings must be correct for the size of the cylinders/pistons. So since the diameter of your KZ750 cylinders/pistons (66mm bore) are different than that of a KZ650 (62mm bore) the rings required for each engine will also be different. Consequently, if you expect piston rings that were made to fit KZ650 engines to work properly in your KZ750 engine you will be disappointed. In other words; I would highly recommend buying piston rings that are designed to work in your engine type rather than a different size engine. No offense intended, but if this is not intuitively obvious to you I respectfully recommend that you not try to rebuild your engine by yourself. Determining the correct rings is the easy part. You may want to enlist the support of someone with hands on experience rebuilding an engine to show you the process. Ed

Agreed. There's probably some cases out there where they just stroked another engine to get the displacement change. But unless I had documentation (i.e. dimensions that showed they're both the same, or a cross-reference showing the same part #)to prove it, I would never assume pistons/rings from another engine, even of the same size, would be interchangeable. You can check kawasaki's website for part #'s to check if they're the same for future reference, but in this case, they aren't going to be.
