As a first step to try to avoid a complete teardown:

Clean the tank and petcock.

While the tank is off, remove the bowl drain crews and shoot some carb cleaner down the gas inlets of the carbs.

Replace the screws and fill each carb with Gumout liquid or Seafoam or whatever carb cleaner. Plug the inlet and let it sit a couple of days and remove the drains and rinse down again with carb spray.

This will get most dirt out.

There are no bolts on the 550A tanks.

You just lift up the seat, then pull up on the rear of the tank and it will pop out of its holder at the back. Then you pull the whol tank backward and upward to slid it out of the front holders.

Make sure the 2 hoses (fuel and vacuum) and wires(if any) are disconnected from the tank first.

The petcock is a vacuum type. There is no "off" position. "On" or "Res" is actually the off position when the motor is not running. "Pri" (prime) position will let gas flow all the time.
