Looks nice, both the pipe and bike. Did it make an improvement or are you still tuning it in. Let us know how you went. I do agree with Mike the marving for both quality and power killed anything I had previously, I had a V & H years ago it went ok but attracted cops. The racing Marving I have is quieter (with the baffle, Mikes is without).
Cheers to your new pipe

No you do not have to remove the whole thing to change the oil filter.lol  .I have the same pipe you just got and I love it. Just pull the bolt all the way out then slide the cap to the side and presto it's off without removeing the pipe at all. still lololo thoe. Also I've also heard the Marving is not a bad pipe but its soooo ugly  if you dont like the v&h go with a kerker.

Kawasaki Mike, Built408 must be calling your Marving ugly because mine looks ok, wait a couple of years and see whose looks best

I thought that might work so i tried it but i couldn't get the bolt out of the middle it seems to be held on by the oil filter. If i remember rightly isn't there a small o ring at the top that holds the filter onto the bolt?
Perhaps i just need to give it a bit more welly. :-)

I have literally just fitted bigger main jets (fitted bigger pilot jets a while back) and it's going extremely well with much more top end power.
I'm very impressed with the pipe with it's quality and sound.
On low revs it's fairly quiet and the paperwork says it's road legal. I thought it was going to be too quiet and nearly didn't buy it for that reason, but when i open it up it sounds pretty loud.

Too late :-)
Bought the pipe and it turned up in Aus in around 4-5 days later (over a weekend also!!)
Fitted OK with a very minor drilling of the mounting hole to fit my larger bolt through.
Looks and sounds awesome and for $350 USD I recon was a bargain

They're good pipes...you done good IMO :) The street baffle with the packing removed gives good sound without being annoying and performance is very good. Get a rack of good carbs now and you'll really enjoy the combo.

What's the advice for a good set of carbs that are still relatively cheap and easy to find?

Hope it goes well(looks nice), did you have to do much to the standard carby setup? Is there a performance and fuel economy gain?
From what I can see you have 26mm carbies on your bike, it looks like you want to keep it standard looking (am I right?), if thats so go for the 29mm smooth bores or maybe the 28mm Z1R carby's (small gain). If you don't care about standard looking then there are lots of variaties and different recommendations (you could start a verbal war)but my preference for street is a set of CV's, in your case if the engine is standard try 34mm.

all I've done is up the pilots to 17.5 and mains to 107.5, the mains seems to have made a fairly big difference but i only fitted them a couple of days back so not had a good chance to test them out or to see how much more fuel it might use. Mind you the mains don't get much use on the way into work :-)
My local Zed parts dealer who's been running them for years and knows them inside out suggested the Z1r carbies, I'd just forgotten which ones he suggested, so thanks for reminding me. He also said they appear on Ebay now and then and aren't too expensive.
Yea I'd rather keep it standard as the 4 into one pipe was pushing my "standardness" to it's limits but the pipes it had on it (LTD style with weird twisted downpipes) were particularly ugly so i wanted rid ASAP.
I will eventually (a few years down the line)replace it for some standards if i can ever find some

Both the Z1R models have the 28mm carbies which look exactly the same as your 26mm. It should give a better top end without any damage to the mid or bottom because the pipe alone should make a huge difference (especially on the Z series)

Best bang for the buck is RS Mikuni. Best carbs for a pretty stock KZ 1000 IMO would be CRS29. Nothing is cheap anymore but if you watch Ebay you will find a set of RS for a great price...usually.
