Possible valve float was created by Surfdude_007
Hello All, I have recently purchased two KZ1000 LTD's. One is running the other is not. The one that is running I took out the other day and found that the bike runs, shifts, handles, accelerates, great until you get above 5000 rpm's. I surmise that this is valve float. I am not really familiar with the KZ1000 engine. Any advice or at least point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Might try too open gas cap and run it past 5k Just dont do it with a full tank. Could also be the airfilter

Also, possible pinched fuel line, clogged fuel filter, or ignition advancer not moving freely. Ed

Valve float is unlikely to happen this side of 10,000 rpm on the KZ1000. What exactly happens around 5000 rpm?

Thank you all, Synopsis: I'll shift through the gears. It's good and strong until it goes over 4000 rpm. Then it won't get over 4000 rpm it seems to struggle and fail to get over this rpm. There seems to be some chattering from the top end. That's why I thought it might be something to do with the valve train.

Chances are that your ignition advancer doesn't advance because it's stuck. Take it apart - note how it's fitted because it can be inserted 180 degrees off, not good for running :D - clean and lube and reinstate. Should sort it.

Add the year of the bike/ bikes to the post, and go back into your user profile. Get to where there is your signature, add the bikes there also, then it will come up on all future and past posts. This is needed to get the info to you.
But the noise you are hearing, is it a Pinging sound? It could be from the bike going lean as the carbs starve for fuel. Petcock strainer in the tank, in-line filter if it has one, and then possibly your carbs may have inlet screens above the float needle and seat/ float valve.
but as suggested it could be on the fuel vent side, the cap has the vent. No air in, no fuel out.

Well I checked out the ignition advancer and took it off to see the functionality of the assembly. It moved with no problems. I will attach a picture.

So you had the advancer sitting behind that plate out and apart and the things moved freely, snapping back into place when letting go? I ask because the rust in the bottom of your picture suggest that the advancer either is or likely was stuck or slow moving.

Yup, took it out and they snapped back without hanging up at all. I will take another picture with the plate off.

Although in the picture you can see that the plate is pegged to one side. Is this normal?
