Which is better fiber or aluminum base gasket? Any sealant techniques to follow?

The factory base gasket on mine was some kind of fiber type set on with a very strong adhesive similar to 3-bond type. It was very hard to remove.

When I rebuilt mine I made a base gasket from the 1/32" material from Auto Zone and sealed it with Ultra Black Hi Temp gasket sealer. Worked perfectly.

Fiber gasket is most common for base gasket,spray with copper coat before installing B)
posting from deep under a non-descript barn in an undisclosed location southwest of Omaha.
