Bike only runs on starter fluid was created by phatman1969
Hi again everyone. I put my 84 kz700 back together today and tried to fire her up. Wont start or run on anything but the starter fluid. It revs up on it then drops down and eventually quits. Guy I bought it from just "cleaned" the carbs. Anything else i should look at before i take the carbs apart again? I know I have spark, I know I have gas(at least the float bowls filled up) and I know there is air.Any help is appreciated.

go to walmart and buy a gallon of bearymanns carb dip. break then down all rubber out and soak them for 12 hrs. when done, scrub them in hot water and dawn dish soap then rinse them very good and blow out with compressed air.I have done it with great sucess.

dont do it in the house as your wife will be pissed due to the smell. Please wear solvent gloves during the process. Use a old tooth brush to clean strubren areas They wont be shinny like mine....I polished them....but they will be very clean inside and out, when done you can start with a clean proper set of carbs. Inspect all parts and replace as needed. The float needle and seat assembly should be looked at. Remember, old gas is the cause of most carb problems; use a gas stabilizer 100% of the time this will eliminate issue of bad gas. Good luck

Ok, so I took the carbs out today and cleaned them. I have never owned a bike with 4 carbs on it so I was when I saw some extra inlets between two of the carbs. What i have is one fuel inlet in the middle that looks like it feed across 4 carbs, and then two more between the two side carbs. They clearly look like they dump fuel into the bowls. Am I correct? Once again i bought this bike incomplete and some stuff obviously is missing. Is there a some kind of a tee that comes from main fuel line to each inlet seperately? Thanks

they are the mikuni, i think the bs34. there is 1 fitting in the middle between the two inner carbs and then between each of the outer carbs a fitting. In the float bowl you can see where I think the fuel comes in. thanks
