Replaced my 76 crank with one from 78 with 25,000 miles.

Started it up had a smoke problem :woohoo: :pinch:

Use oem because the aftermarket ones were gummy like vacuum
line gets with gas on it.

boy was I pissed at myself I went from :( to  to

to having a phobia for taking the head off. So now I'm awake.

That stung. So ... I looked at my spare head and the bike thinking
out different ways to make a spring compressor and Just got tired of it.

Not wanting to take the head off I simplified the matter.

I had to do something since I was doing body work reglassing my tail where it mounts
to the top by cutting out the original raised mounts so it sits flat
to the seat I made,

rewired all the main connectors with new reg. and added two relays,
one for the ignition and one the starter.

I'm putting a square car headlight in the front with my own brackets

and leaving the back open. All kinks of refining going on here for style and
sport look.

Hopefully it will be something to look at.

I came up with a solution where I could use a long bar and pipe with a slot
cut into it and that it.

The frame will brace the top and down it will go somone else snatches out
the keepers.

SO now I'm happy. Because it sounded darn good and I just got done with
the header. I think I can tell the heavier crank is HEAVIER. Imagine that

I'll see how much it annoys me or impresses me. If I can't stand it I'll take it

out, (big words for a failed valve seal guy....

SO I'll say it one more time , gonna do it right this time,
gonna do it right every time, never gonna do it wrong AGAIN!

Ok I'm good now it just walke straight and keep your heade on SOLDIER!

Would be interesting to learn about a practical method of replacing valve stem seals without removing the engine head.

And, yes, Welcome Back! :cheer:

Good Fortune! :)

Patton that's a good subject since I forgot to say how I'm going to do it.

I'm going to take a long bar, mount a 3inch or so piece of pipe to the end
so it can swivel. I'll cut a slot into the short piece of pipe to access
the keepers.

Slide that long bar under between the motor and top frame, pull up on
the bar and depress the valves one at a time. If the bar wants to slide
I'll clamp a visegrip to the frame to hold it.

To hold the valves up I'll just bend a wire and put it into the plug

hole... soo simple... and no matter what anyone says it will work
and fast. Yee ha.

I think the streets are dry so I'm going back out again to take a test run.

Got rained on few hours ago, pulled over behind a bar on mainstreet and

theres this guys with a shop open, working on his sportser float level

let me bring the bike in and lube the chain. I have a lawn tractor battery sticking
out of the side and all the body looks like pure hell.

The motor is clean though and no leaks. If the springs come off easy I'll
be calling vesrag for round three saying give me some more!

the r6 doesn't know it but I'm sneaking up. my 150lb friend might be getting
old but he's still crazy when his his a.d.d. is kickin.

Gotta love it. Were only here for a little while.

I see dry spots, I'm going out to see what a heavy crank is worth..

I'll be back..

What's the problem with replacing valve stem seals without removing the cylinder head? Just find a superman who can easily compress the valve springs with his fingers to remove the keepers, valve springs, then seals! :)

And I know of a guy who can do this, believe it or not. There's just one fly in the ointment so to speak: He lives on Maui.

actually seen it done in cars where you have better access to the head,

feed some rope into the cylinder thorough the valve hole, rotate crank till piston pushes rope against the closed valves, fashion a long lever to press on the valve retainer through some long fork/tube and bolt it to the head, doable but sure harder on a bike with the frame disturbing

that said, nads tell us the name of the stuff and where to get it, please.

This guy can easily depress the spring retainer with a couple of his fingers. No need for anything else. :)
