I think im gonna run the 1197J piston kit in a sleeved kz jug. to keep my compression up. and i think iam gonna hopefully pick up my new mk11 bottom end to start the build. then iam gonna switch over my head when i am ready for it. i was told i would have to run a base gasket spacer. to get my clearance. I talked about running my oil cooler earlier and i was thinking... I am waitning on my new high performance stator to arrive via elctrosport. But anyway i was thinking about getting a little fan to attach to the cooler and run it off a switch or possibly a thermostat. what do you guys think?? i would think that would help keep that 1197 engine cooler.

I think you should listen to MarkII22. You have way to many irons in the fire. Slowdown and take a breath. You are sounding like me and I cant sleep at night with thoughts of cams, heads and carbs. I finally was able to slow things down and prioritize, focus and proceed. I do love the passion you have. You will get there.

1197 in a stock block is a great setup. We have done hundreds of them. I would not recommend the J pistons unless you are using a J head. That is also a common setup.

You have to run a .040" spacer under the block if you use J pistons.

So is there a 1197 j piston or not? iam running a j head. iam confused.I just want to get the right pistons for my motor. My 1075 pistons clear my j head without any spacers. so if i had to run kz pistons whats the most id have to do? put a spacer under the jug? from the sounds of it id have to do that either way. what do you guys think on the fan deal? is it worth doing?

I like the fan idea.. Build the bottom end first to handle the power your planning.

You have a Mk 2 engine and you are running a J model head? Or are you going to run a J head?

Use a thermostat switch with an oil temp probe. I would only use the fans with an oil cooler, not sure if that's what you meant.

Fans aren't needed. My brother runs a stock block 900 based 1230 with just a big bodied Lockhart oil cooler and has no heat issues. Ask around if there were going to be heat issues, that motor would have them. I hope you're sending your crank to Pearson since there is no better place. Undercutting second gear is cheap insurance. Also run the 10.25:1 pistons on the street since 13:1 is gonna take race gas to stop detonation. There's an 1197 in my future too if I don't sell my bike this year.
