Thread repair? was created by tito
Taped hole in cylinder head at cam plug is worn out and the bolt can't be tightened also I got oil leak from there. :pinch:
What would be the best method to repair it? Longer bolt may solved it but I was wondering what's the best way to fix it.
Thanks!

my method(is like opinions)

goes:

heli-coil

after that pulls out:
timesert

after that pulls out:

step stud (if possible)

finally:
weld up and re-machine a new hole and cut new threads and start over.

As a temp fix I have used a longer 6x1 bolt and installed a nut on the end. That got me by for years until I pulled the head off during a rebuild. At that time I tapped and installed a heli coil. The heli coil is still there after 20+ years.

Leon and baldy,

Thank you very much for your sugestions. I understand that the best method would be heli coil. I will do when I open the head. In the meantime, I will use longer bolt and nuts to fasten the head cover.
