Fear not Bigo... as Medina say's if you have the missing piece it is repairable. That damage is almost identical to what happened (amongst other things) to my old Z1100 when I had a really bad smack a few years back. A mate of mine with a little machine shop welded it for me... and after finishing and polishing you really couldn't tell the difference. No bull...

Bigo, there are so many variables here, I don't quite know where to start. You don't say if this happened because of a smack on your bike, or you bought this bike with that damage to do up.
Almost anything's repairable, but not by anybody.
1.) How important is this bike to you, is it your main mode of transport.
2.) How much money and time have you got, in that order.
3.) How much knowledge do either you or friends have of re-building engines.
4.) Do you live in an area where there are small machine shops with the expertise needed.
5.) If you haven't got the missing fragment you can bet your bottom dollar there's an old bike laying around somewhere that you can scavenge, you just need to find it. Do a cross reference check for parts that were used on both your bike and others to narrow down the search area and give you greater choice.
I could go on, but you need to be a bit more specific than just saying "How bad is this?

It's not my primary mode of transportation
I have about 300 a month to spend on it
There are a few machine shops around
Some of my friends have a little know how
And I wOuld like to have it out of my kitchen ASAP

Just thinking out loud here so feel free to ridicule but wondering if you take out the pulse coil plate and advancer and somehow fix a piece of flexible metal like ducting to the inside perhaps it might be possible to build up the missing piece with something like JB Weld or Bondo and paint with engine paint. I used JB Weld under a hose clip years ago for a similar but much smaller repair and no problem.

Ok Bigo, so if I was you and didn't have the missing fragment I'd start looking for another motor or a bike to scavenge asap. Start by asking on this forum about bikes that may well share the same engine casings as yours. It will give you more chance of finding your parts. Its such a pity that you haven't got that piece though cos it is repairable...
Good luck anyway and start doing some research...
