Pods-vs-Airbox! was created by TexasBoot
So I just bought a 1980 550a kawasaki and its made into a cafe racer. The air box was taken off. It just has a tube going from one air suction valve cover to the other. With a hose connected and hanging off to the side from the crankcase breather. Know my question is what are pods? Should I block off the suction valve covers? And If so what Can I use, do they need filters on them if so what kind? Or should I try and find an airbox assembly. What would be better?

It's okay to have a hose from crankcase breather routed to exit underneath the bike.

Imo airbox is more user-friendly than pods.

Good Fortune! :)

I have TK22 carbs. But I was wondering what are pods and should I keep the original covers and just and filters? Also if I do what kind of filters can adapt to them or just block them off?

"PODs" are the little round Air filter elements that fit one to each carb.

A "pod" is an individual filter attached to the intake side of a carb.
Some poor wretched misinformed souls replace their airbox with pods. :woohoo:

See one of the members here, Loudhvx, he has a web site devoted to the 550's. There is info there for running those carbs with "Pod" Air filters.
The Air Box is still the best choice for the street, with all the different weather occurrences.
