Cam cap helicoils...Help with locktight was created by KZB2 650
Hey guys finally got the guts up to drill and tap all 16 cam cap holes for helicoils. 6mm 1.0 12mm long.

Things went good and was all ready to start locktighting them in when I noticed there is a high strenghth and a high temp red locktight.

Red High strenghth says its good for 300 degree's while the Red HT is good for 450 but not quite as strong 180 inch lbs vs 230 inch pounds on a 3 eights bolt.

Which do you guys use, I've got things going great up to this point and do want to mess up here. Thanks.

I agree. No loctite required on helicoil.

And, no torque wrench either!
I never used a torque wrench! Always by feel!
Inch pounds/ How many people think they are doing it right, when all of the sudden they just strip that bolt in an instant!
I cut a ratchet off in half 30 yrs ago.
It fits in my palm. I always used sense of feel!
My opinion

Thanks guys, I know there's a few guys on here that believe you must loctite em but there's quite a few that say no so.....

To late on the torque wrench, went out and bought a good beam type 0 to 200 inch Lb and a Harbor frieght one too to double check each one. Never stripped one yet doing it for insurance and by the time I check the new old cams and get it bench shimmed I know I'll have em in and out quite a few times.

Use the torque wrench. I'm not saying z1kzonly cannot tighten things down properly without one - some folks can, but most folks are not born with that "feel" and end up overtightening, undertightening, or stripping threads before they ever develop that skill. Speaking for myself, I'm positive I cannot tell when I have tightened a bolt to 100 inch pounds +- 2% just by feel; so I rely on torque wrenches for accuracy. They haven't let me down yet - zero stripped threads on my KZ650 in 35 years. Ed
