Don't hit the fins with anything, they are fragile and will break very easily. Look at the outer edge of each cylinder at the bottom gasket surface. There should be a small slot on each side for a wedge, like a flat screwdriver blade.

Believe me I know what you mean.busted knuckle wrote: I have sprayed wd-40 on everything i can think of. Ive tapped lightly with a soft hammer and I still cant get that block to budge.
make sure you have the nut and washer removed (shown as #5 and #6 above).. Getting the cylinder free requires prying at the sides where the notch is. If you had a factory manual, it shows exactly what I am talking about. Be careful not to break fins when prying.
NEVER TAP WITH HAMMER
The reason likely is the base gasket was sealed at the factory with something like 3 bond, a very strong sealer adhesive. Mine was. I ended up having to take a small motorcycle tire iron and grind the tip down until it was a perfect fit into the two pry notches on each side of the cylinder. Work them alternately and they finally started to release.
The adhesive held the gasket so well that I had to tear the gasket in half to get the cylinder off. Half stuck to the cylinder flange, half stuck to the crankcase surface.

My 750 twin factory manual also says those pry notches are there for exactly that reason: to pry the cylinder off. FYI, getting a tool that fits snug into the slot gives more leverage.busted knuckle wrote: 5 + 6 are off. I was told by another guy not to pry to hard at those pry points because I could crack the block.

Single edged razor blade at right angle to the surface. Stuff rags into the crank case so the debris can't fall in and vacuum it up regularly as you go around. It's a slow process.busted knuckle wrote: what is the best way to get an old gasket and gasket sealer off of my cylinder block? Most of it came off when I got the block off but some of it is stuck on in various places
