I've used the Muriatic on some cylinders that had a slight seizure of piston, it removes the Aluminum without touching the cylinder bore.
This Phosphoric etched right to bare metal within minutes. No real smell, of course that's outside, with the PPE on. ;)
I bought it at Homedepot for like $16. The washing powder I got at ACE Hardware for like $5
Then you can mix it with some water and clean the stains off of the floor/ driveway.:P

I used electroysis on my 80 kz1000 tank this spring. The tank was in pretty good shape but it sat for about five years without running. I used a 1/2 inch bolt as my electrode and hooked it up to my battery charger with a 10 gauge copper wire. I ran the charger on 10 amps. and it took approx. 6-7 hours and looks very good inside. Leaves a milky color over the cleaned metal. I still sprayed wd on it to make sure it did not rust. I already had some sodium carbonate in my pool chemical supply.

The Phosphoric Acid would get rid of the milky brown stain, instantly.

I did my tank 2 weeks ago. I used a threaded rod fastened to a spray can cap,it took mine about 18 hours, but the tank was in bad shape to start with. I plan on putting an epoxy liner in mine.

Ideally you want an electrode with the same surface area as the piece you're cleaning. Not possible with a fuel tank,(I spent many late hours musing over this and couldnt work out how to achieve it) but my own experience doing it got good results. Cleaning the electrode on a regular basis helps a lot cos of the crap that accumulates on it.
Flash rust yep wd.
I used a fish tank to do the outside after I got it down to bare metal.(wanted to get into the bit of the seam a wire brush cant reach.
Bear in mind that its line of sight with this and the closer the electrode is the faster/better the results.A protected power supply is probably the best way to go so if the two electrodes do touch it'll just trip out.
I also got thinking about long term protection of the inside surface of the tank and would like to float an idea for you guys to (fall about laughing?) think on if you would.
(motorhead,my apologies for steering this in this direction but its relevant (I think) cos once its clean you want to keep it like that yeah?)
My tank (z500) holds 13.5 litres (13500mL).If I were to add a small (5mL ?) of motor oil it would float as a layer on the top surface of the petrol(gas).Ye....nay...???
As the fuel level goes down I'm thinking it would leave a thin layer of oil on the inside wall of the tank and prevent rusting.
Now 5/13500 = 0.0001% (or thereabouts) so I wouldnt expect it to interfere with the operation of the engine.Opinions?
Generally, opinions?
At least it'll give you something to laugh about if I'm wrong.
(My machine is in bits so I can't try it)
Best Regards from England:)

Yes two stroke oil and petrol will mix,I remember that from my two stroke triple days.
But this oil is specifically formulated for the job.
I was just a bit late at the patent office.:P

Interesting.
Personally, No way would I add that to a fuel system, especially a Diesel. Most Warranties, under Bosch, are void by additives Designed for fuel treatment. I wouldn't want it in my carbs either, how does it react with todays Ethanol? I wouldn't want to find out. Its better to keep a clean system, and drain the water out, especially in a Diesel, regularly. Any real Diesel system will have a water separator just for keeping it out of the Injection system. What would that stuff do to the modern high pressure computer controlled electronic solenoid Diesel injector? Could be a very expensive lesson.

Not too many diesel KZ's out there are there?
I would think that the distributors would have taken ethanol into account as they're U.S based.
Out of interest, how did you know that Daubert Cromwell are part of Bosch.
I think this could be (no I'm not a shareholder ;) ) a realistic alternative to those tank liners we hear so many horror stories about.
So really,I can't see any reason not to consider it as a potential cure for the problem of rusty tanks.(no I'm not a shareholder):P

I found it went better with the higher Amp setting on my charger.
Its all back on the bike, with fresh paint looking good. Paint, wet sand 400 grit, then 800 grit, then buff/ polish for a great shine.

I have used this process and have been happy wiht it. I have a small (6amp) battery charger so it took several days, but the tank looked better than it had in some time.

I used 1/4 in threaded rod and wraped it in plastic window screen so it would not short out when it touched the tank. It worked well it just took a rather long time.
