In 73 my buddy bought an H2 triple 750. I bought a new 73 Z1 when they first came out. We swapped bikes and both of us said the 750 was the fastest. We raced a dozen times and the Z1 won every time. The 750s power was explosive, all or nothing so it felt faster. Neither one of us could believe it wasnt the fastest in the 1/4 mile. I remember the exact ET and MPH of my best run, 12.19 @ 108.95. It went the fastest leaving it in 4th and over reving it rather then shifting into 5th. Is that stupid crap to remmeber at 67 or what ? I raced that thing evry weekend for a year with nothing but a chain wearing out, they werent too good back then. If you didnt change it they would break and take out the cases like the 750 Hondas did. Had one of them too in 1969. The chain oilers job was to lube the rear wheel.

Depending on the magazine the Z1 and H2 were pretty even at about 12.5 give or take in the quarter mile. I wanted a Z1 or KZ1000 back in the late 70s and back then all were pretty much dumping the triples for nothing. I got my mint 74 H2 for $1000 and 2 complete 72s for $300, one was a chopper:laugh: Can you imagine riding a chopped H2, no there is some real mentality in doing that! KZ900/1000 and Z1 were much more money back then. Times have changed. I like my H2 to look at and ride once every couple years, but I can't imagine using a triple as a basic street bike even back in 1972. Vibrate, parts fall off, no brakes, load up in hot weather, real marginal handling to say the least. I don't get the allure really even after owning one for 32 years.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

boy i saw an H2 in the 80's under a sheet on a guys front porch...he worked at a big supply/machinist...gig by vanderberg airforce and skunk works and had friends, and had accesss to jet and lockheed (sp) stuff and the whole bike had been anodized or ran in colored fittings and alloys...sun rims...era drilled out evrything....wicked chrome chambers and the tracy body/fox/tarrozzi/pumpers,everything you could do back then .......the guy was older and was offering it to my friend who was flat broke just like me back then... for 1100-1300 if my memory serves...was down in the santa maria Ca. area....circa 84-87.......always wondered where that waspy disco two storke over spend went...it looked like it would go down the road like a drunk...even with all the goodies
but it dripped in era caynon racer H2...looked like a rolling disco
love to find something like that today
in the 90's we helped a young man who spoke 0 english to push his bone stock old tags dusty 400 triple out of traffic on the off ramp in santa barbara...he was unsure of the process to restart it and the bike was clearly just changing hands..could not talk to him to see if it had owners..and left...he was trying to kick it...very young guy and i doubt he knew what bike he was holding

I'm with you!
The H1's and H2's had one redeeming quality, they were fast (for their time) in a straight line.
Couldn't do anything else worth a crap though.
I rode an H1 from Little Rock AR to Muncie IN (680 miles), worst trip I've ever had. Then I took it to the local motorcross course to watch guys practicing, and wound up trouncing a loudmouth kid on a 175 Penton with it. I was certifiable back then
And I have absolutely no desire to ever own another, wasn't it Kenny Roberts that called the H1 the worst bike he'd ever rode?

Had an H1 in the early 80,s and although it was great fun to ride and I loved the smell of the Castrol R I,ve got to say I think I spent more time pushing it than I did riding it
