resistor plugs or not

My 82 LTD 1000 has had the stock coils rewired and I put MSD 8mm copper core wires on after whittling down outer insulation layer and enlarging the holes in stock caps on the coils.
They have MSD plug boot ends so no stock resistor ends. Coils check at 2.8 ohms
I've been running NGK B8es plugs which after multiple cleanings due to rich carbs (hopefully fixed now)1 or 2 don't seem to fire very well if at all.
The question is whether or not I need resistor plugs like BR8ES or can I run the B8ES?
Can't get Denso's locally and I won't use Champions so it's NGK or??? need options.

Since your bike has no on board computers or sophisticated electronics, it would probably run OK without resistor plugs. It will put out a lot of radio noise.

I run no resistance at all and have no problems with using a GPS or on-board video camera. The spark is also much stronger. I just love annoying the pricks in their fancy cars and the overpowering stereos. :woohoo: But than I am also the asshole that has a cellphone jammer on my bike.

Well I guess I can hope for better spark with no resistance in the ignition secondary.
Just as an experiment to judge the iffy NGK plugs I got Autolite 4054's (spec for this bike)
No difference.
Time for a new thread.

The best plug to use that I have found is the denso W24ESU. Those are identical to ACCEL 142. Here is a thread we did some time ago.
kzrider.com/forum/4-electrical/351334-wh...plug-gap-do-you-run-
I dont think the plugs are the problem though. 2.8 Ohms on the coils is the very upper limit of resistance. I would replace the coils with a set of Dyna 2.2 Ohm Gray coils. These are the correct replacement for that bike, because the ignition system is a 2.2 Ohm system. Did you also check the voltage going to the coils while the bike is running? If you have below 12V, you have a problem in the wiring harness.

I did the rewire of the coils with a relay direct from battery.
I would think it would run passable with these coils but the plugs had never looked like they were firing clean as they should.

I would first make sure that your ignition is at 100% before you start messing with your carburetors. Make sure that the advancer is working properly. Make sure that the pulsing coils are not intermittent. Make sure that the ignition coils and wires are at 100%. Make sure that you have a bright blue spark. Than go back to your carburetors (if at this point you even have to)

Wow! They have some as cheap as $37 bucks! Seems like a great thing to be carrying on your motorcycle. Distracted drivers will get dropped calls. It may make them more distracted for a moment but then they'll get off the phone.
