Installing engine was created by dcil
I'm in the process of building a 1982 kz750 twin into a chopper. I've cut the side bars out that follow the backbone in preperation for raking, plus it gives more room for engine removal/installation. I pulled the motor out this evening(major pain by myself). After the framework and paint are done, how is the best way to get it back in there without raping the paint? I took it out laying on it's side, but it fits so close I scratched the sidecover on the frame. There has to be a trick that I'm missing. Thought about pulling the head, but thats a whole other can of worms I don't want to open unless I have to. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

i normally lay motor on its side on a rug and lower frame over it,wrap frame tubes to protect them.
removing exhuast studs before installing motor also helps

With Frame stripped (front end & rear swingarm off), cylinder/head/carbs off...
Frame on blanket laying vertical....
Frame tubes where engine slides in bubble wrapped/tapped...
Slide lower engine into place just off right side as sitting over frame...
Left arm inside frame, right arm outside of frame...
2-4" lift up and slide frame left into place...
Shift/move/rotate engine in mounting hole positions.
Insert engine mounting bolts....
Eat your spinach, helps if you're a strong sonsabitch as well....

No seriously, I do the same thing, but with an old mattress and some wood pieces to shim the motor where I want it.
