How to clean stained exhaust pipe? was created by The_Head
My KZ250's exhaust is stained. Here is a pic:
I need a recommendation on how to clean this up.
So far I have tried: 1. steel wool and wd40
2. chrome polish by turtlewax
I have not had any success so far. It's really bugging me. I want it to look nice or I'm going to chop it off and use some kind of stock harley muffler.

It looks like it's been burned with battery acid; if so there's no way to clean it as the chrome is etched. Check your battery vent to make sure the overflow tube is attached and routed correctly or the same thing may happen again. Ed

You could find a used one in decent shape on ebay -- probably cheaper than a re-chrome. Or buy a used aftermarket exhaust, although that might require a re-jet depending on how much less restrictive it is.
If you do find a used one, you could sell your bad one cheap to offset the cost of the better one. Just an idea. Some folks on a tight budget buy parts that are cosmetically shot but functional.

Rattle can BBQ paint, ceramic coat, JET-HOT or re-chrome.
I tried a bunch of cleaners as well. All I did was dull the chrome.

I'm not going to paint it black. I am seriously eyeing a Harley muffler though. There are KZ250 pipes on Ebay, but they are $99 usually.

Try a Mother's polishing ball attached to ur drill and a product called White Diamond metal polish. It took 20 years of crud off a Yoshi aluminum can I found and made it look
like chrome. As has been stated above if the can is acid etched, may not be a lot u can do.bj

Just make sure you polish your aluminium like Plummen so they contrast!
