Best streetable kit and cams was created by Kz luv
I have a z1 900 with 1015 cylinders, J head. I am going to put a kit and cams and need to know which is better for a daily rider. I'm either going with 1197 or 1260 pistons. My concern is overheating with the 1260. Also which cams would be best. Not drag racing but want to be a beast mid range. Thanx

smoothbores or crs would work in my opinion anyway.
remember the j series head drops compression 1 1/2-2 numbers so 10.5:1 becomes between 8.5:1-9:1 which i personally consider the perfect compression for a streetable pump gas motor.
combine that with a 900 crank with that nice topend and youll be breaking a lot of sportbike hearts from stoplight to stoplight on 89 octane gas!

1200 or 1260 with 410s is a good choice With the J head you would want J pistons with a spacer plate. We can put together a package for you.

With J head, if you're going to go 1197 kit with k410 cams, which, by the way will make a nice combo... pay attention here...
If you're leaving the head stock & IF you already have 29's, they'll suffice. They outflow a stock J head by about 15CFM.
If you plan on head work and / or you don't already have 29 smoothbores, then skip the used 29's. Get either RS34, RS36 Mikuni's or CRS33 Keihins.
A correctly street ported J Head should outflow the 29's.
With a 1200cc motor and short duration cams like the K410, the motor will easily handle 33mm round slide or 34 - flat slide carbs and deliver good street behavior.
Don't misunderstand, 29's are a good carb but you have to look at the prices they bring for used vs what you can get brand new vs what you intend to do with the head.

I have the same setup, but I was told that I wouldn't have a problem with the 1260. I'm tryin to build a KING KONG streetfighter slash daily rider. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
