piston rings

on my kz1000 a2 i need to buy new rings. z1's regular rings are out of stock. the wiseco rings are only for wiseco pistons. what gives? also or i need the 70mm, 72?

If you have a large bag of money, OEM piston rings are still available form Mother Kawasaki.

i dont have bags....i was figuring 22-27 bucks for each piston.

They have every imaginable ring in every size. If they do not have a set, they will make one up. All you require is the dimensions. I use them all the time.

i just had a machine shop quote me 200 bucks to measure each cylinder wall and each piston. does that sound right?

right for them ..if they wanna keep the lights on.....both tools in decent quality can be bought i guess....ok guys...any links on the best bang for buck but still decent quality on the two tools shown for inside and outside in the manual......

i was on harbor freight and it seems they have a lot of measuring tools to choose from for a good price. which 2 tools do i need to find my cylinder/piston clearence?

just the two we were looking at on the phone...but i would start a thread for each or search it in the forum archives...see what the motorheads here recomend before taking a chance on a china wrench...because to tell you the truth...harbor freight..80 % of the stuff imo.....sucks....

As far as the stuff that i have in my carpenters .plumbers electrical,painters collection....that i know from 20 yrs exp is the right tool at the right price....i go to harbor freight and the stuff "looks" the part but you can tell if you "know" what your looking at ...it is cheap knock offs of the real tool.....so if that is the case for the tools "I" know !!!and have used my whole life!!!!

then why would i buy something unknown to me ,like an 89.00 look alike welding rig,....or compression tester...dial indicator...stuff out of my experience realm......must be a knock off too.....

wow was i way off on my origional post. shows you all how much of a noobie i am. i have the 900 block, 66mm pistons. im not worthy.....thanks for being so patient.

i am confused now....when i buy parts for this 900 block how do i know what year/model block it is? parts specify diff years or z1 models. i am not familiar with this and dont want to be buying the wrong parts. thanks.

you have a 900 block on 1000 cases? check the engine vin and see if it starts with z1 they are 900 cases, kz means they are 1000's.

if u got 900 pistons get 900 rings
by the way kz 900 and z1 900 are same rings
