J Motor KZ1000 O-Rings At Oil Pressure Switch

OK so basically if you haven't changed the O-rings at this Fitting Block, right under the cam chain tensioner, then I say you better. I've had both bikes Start to leak here when a cold start is done. Remember these have a low oil pressure system, like 3psi. So if it leaks the O-rings would be Fubar. I've found them to be hard as a rock.
So If you are getting one running, or pulling your carbs for service, or just want to replace them before it starts to leak, I would do It. If you have a Metric O-ring kit in your work area, then you should have the correct sizes without ordering anything. Takes a couple minutes to do even with the carbs on. 2 allen head bolts, and a 6mm allen key, or socket will remove it.
Sometimes you just don't think about these sort of area's when you do a Top End, as the O-Rings wouldn't be in that Gasket Set, you would get them in a Complete gasket set.

You can really loose a lot of oil threw these. I have been postponing replacing mine just due to laziness. I get a big puddle of oil on top of the case in no time. I will swap them out with "Viton" rings when I put the bike back into service this spring.

My O rings didn't appear "hard", but they sure were squished.

All the orings are smashed and hard as a rock on these 30 yr old engines by now. The more miles, the more heat and more chance of leaks. Most will not leak if you don't fool with them, or if they do it will be minor amounts. A KZ1000 uses much less rubber than a KZ650 thankfully. On a KZ650 I never try to guess which orings are going to leak, as there are at least 50 of them. You KZ1000J guys are lucky as you have only 20 or so. :)
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

When I first put my motor together last winter I took it out for it's fist ride. Somehow the little pressure switch oring had gotten squished in crooked...Luckily I only went around the block because I lost almost half my oil in about 3 monutes. When looking down for oil leaks I always look somewhere around the head area so I missed the river of oil spilling out behind me!

Can one of you guys snap me a photo of what your oil pressure switch housing (without an oil cooler line attached) looks like? I may be disconnecting my cooler at least until I can get a new oil line.

Thanks Motor Head. From what I can see, the front part of the housing just has a plug with a rubber O-ring. I guess I can just plug mine up and ride off.

When replacing these gaskets, are the allen key bolts just hand tightened? Thanks.
