As said already, probly a small exhaust leak.

You can use a mechanics stethoscope (or fuel line), to listen around for the source of the sound to help eliminate some things.

Could be as simple as a bit of clutch rattle.

Thanks guys. I'm in the process of moving, so I won't get a chance to look at this until this weekend.

As for the chain tensioner, I know I have the automatic two wedge system. Want the APE one, but just don't have the cash right now (see above about moving into new house :) )

You dont need to go to a manual tentioner with that wedge type one, as once it is properly installed/maintained, it cannot push back like the old auto-tentioners did.

Just pull the tentioner out and make sure that it still operates smoothly and there are no notches/nicks anywhere causing it to hang up. lubricate it. Re-install properly (part that connects to engine first, then cross wedge portion), and then rotate the crank around a couple times and it sets itself just fine.
