That's the "safest" way, but takes all the fun out of it.

thanks for your smiling! a smile a day, makes you happy!
so going back to the 'actual sparks' they're there, but are thin orange, and definatly now fat blue. would you change the coils now then?
what is recommended, pattern or new gizmos? zpower in the uk www.zpower.com do a new ignition kit for better ignition and spark power, less current. is this the best way or just change the coils? i don't know anything about the kz750 ltd h2 1981 oem electronic ignition.
q) are they reliable, or change to modern type?
many thanks patton, we're getting to dinosaur roar slowly but carefully!
many thanks

thank you for your message, good of you!
my bike doesn't have points. are these coils recommended for the electronic ignition type engines please.
has anyone else got these coils fitted to their bikes please?
what i'm worried about is, frying my harness if they're not recommended by the kzr's or the ohms are too high.
the coil manufacturers advise 3-4 ohms, is this not too high?
all this restoration work for a fry up?
any advice greatly appreciated gang!
regards
angel

The wiring diagram does not show a resistor used in the switched voltage line to the coils.
It's usually okay to use a higher resistance coil (higher ohms) in lieu of the stock coil, but it reduces intensity of the spark (so I understand).
Would measure the resistance of each existing ignition coil's primary winding by measuring ohms between the coil's two primary winding terminals (where the small wires attach).
If the small wires are permanently attached at the coil (without screw-on lugs), measure at the bullet disconnects.
Perhaps the existing coils are higher resistance than 2.2 ohms, which might explain the weak spark.
If the existing coils each measure about 2.2 ohms, they may be okay and remain serviceable.
There are several other reasons for weak spark besides bad coils.

thanks for your message!
where did you obtain the 2.2ohm resistance from please?
we've looked in all the manuals and can't find out anything about the coils etc.
many thanks
