there are many differant grades of cast iron ,the things im learning working in a steel foundry! :laugh:
Still recovering,some days are better than others.

Steel quality - big difference.

Jay from APE can probably throw more light on this - I remember a long time ago Jay told me the steel in the OEM sleeves is way superior to aftermarket sleeves.

burt monroe found used sewer pipe to have had the proper tempering to build his custom cylinders from.along with shrunk on aluminum cooling fins and welded on flanges.
when boring and honing cylinders you can tell the difference in hardness of certain grades of cast iron.advanced sleeves are some of the hardest i have ever machined.northwest is probably next hardest and they say they are weather treated(rusted then machined?).
