I've used Ti valves in the dragbike for years. They do wear out faster than stainless but 42mm. steel valves won't work either, seen it tried and it wasn't pretty. Way too heavy, guaranteed to fail.

Jay

How well does bronze seats wear, when used with steel or stainless?

Do you have any idea what the weight of a stock size. Ti z1 valve is?

That depends on a lot of things. Generally the motor will RPM 500 more before valve float with Ti valves. How much more power will that 500 extra RPM make? That is the question.

Also, with cams over 480 lift the valves have to get larger. They reach a point where they are just heavy. I don't like to see a valve bigger than 40 mm in stainless in a race motor with over 480 lift.

So to answer the question, Ti valves don't make any more power. it is what they will allow you to do such as increased RPM and valve size and cam lift that will make the extra power.

So as far as a street bike goes, You have a 1260 motor with 435 cams.... Will Ti valves help it? No. Will it just wear the valve faces out sooner...Yes.

I realize valves alone wont increase HP but this is what I was looking for (wanted to hear).....

You have a 1260 motor with 435 cams.... Will Ti valves help it? No. Will it just wear the valve faces out sooner...Yes.

Basically goes in what I was understanding....
Unless your building a seriously whacked performance engine, drive train, gearing etc for racing.... Not worth the extra $$$$ for 99.9% of us re-building these old KZ's....

Stock or mild performance builds this is just not worth the cost with minimal gains this concpet would provide...

Thanks for the clarification.....

The pro stock cars and such get DLC coatings applied. They've been doing that for years now. That's really the solution to the Ti valve problem with the Honda motors IF and I say again IF you're serious about racing them.

Most times I toss the Ti in favor of KW stainless with their springs, retainers and spring seats for ATV heads.

Put and aftermarket cam like say a stage 1 HotCams cam in an ATV motor with stock springs and the valves will tulip in no time....Even the steel OEM valves.

Look at the spring pressures they run in the cars these days...

Must be a coating on the sportbike valves? Why would any ti valve not be coated now days? And require a bronze seat? If a valve seat was wider would it not beat up the valve so bad? I took apart a kz head and noticed this BEAT ring around the intake
