i did not say it would be cheap. i also indicated it was more cost effective to buy a used head. BUT if you have a high dollar ported cyl head you can save it. i have sent some out to have fixed,it was less expensive to have repaired than to send one for a complete job etc. just another option.APE Jay wrote:

Im thinking I might be better off getting a whole engine. I've got a shaft drive lower end off of a 82 spectre that I was going to convert to chain but that's just more work. I've seen several J motors with about 30k for 450. I was hoping to find a bare core head for about 100 but dosent look like that is possible.
Don't know what you're going to do...replace / repair, but if you buy a head and repair your engine, do yourself a big favor and go through yours completely.
