Nothing derogatory intended by the statement when I say "No Shit" It is just TOTAL AGREEMENT to that.

i did not say it would be cheap. i also indicated it was more cost effective to buy a used head. BUT if you have a high dollar ported cyl head you can save it. i have sent some out to have fixed,it was less expensive to have repaired than to send one for a complete job etc. just another option.

Im thinking I might be better off getting a whole engine. I've got a shaft drive lower end off of a 82 spectre that I was going to convert to chain but that's just more work. I've seen several J motors with about 30k for 450. I was hoping to find a bare core head for about 100 but dosent look like that is possible.

Hay show us a picture of the piston. That aught to be just as exciting. I would also check the rod and lower rod bearing. That could have bent the rod or shattered the lower rod bearing. This could have also thrown your crank out of index. if you use an indexing rod threw all four rods and they line up than I would think you would be OK. I bought one at McMaster-Carr. As I mentioned I do have a spare head if you are interested. from my GPz1150 project. It is the one I took from the original CSR motor. Before I mounted the high dollar GPz head.

Don't know what you're going to do...replace / repair, but if you buy a head and repair your engine, do yourself a big favor and go through yours completely.
