Naw.Just remember 1972-3 Yamahammer RD350's.28 hp or so bone stock and they would blow most anything away at the time,including the then awesome 750 Hondas.Why? Lite weight and GREAT handling.They would do a head over in 1st,2nd gears if u were not an experienced rider.A little weight control,some handling mods and most stock KZs have more than enough.Lol.bj

Was a tailpipe sniffer hooked up? I'd be interested in seeing what the a-f ratio looked like.

9DZH01 Needle on 2nd clip
I am going to change to a fatter needle jet - bike tends to heat up and ping at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle.

Dave,
Before you spend more money on the carbs, check you gas cap vent and make sure it's really venting properly. Chances are it's fine but hey...ya never know and it cost you nothing but a little time.
You would not believe how much time a guy I know put into his RS34's with jetting....only to finaly figure out his gas cap was the problem.

Gas cap vents fine. I have the timing backed off about 6 degrees from stock - way less vibration, and motor runs cooler. I'm pretty sure its the mixture at that throttle opening. If I go 100, the motor runs much much much cooler, the throttle is open wider, as soon as a drop back to 1/4 throttle, even if I'm still going fast (with more airflow over the fins), I can actually see the motor pick up heat and start pinging.
I have a thermocouple on the cam cover. On a nice 85 degree day, it reads about 200f cruising backroads, on and off the throttle. 210f-220f really getting on it on some nice 2-lane 70-110 mph. If I just sit on the highway at 75-80mph, temp shoots up to 245f-250f in about 2 minutes.
I have all the parts I need for an oil cooler, I just need to fab up a mount. So I'll get that installed soon enough.
Also, the darn thing still leaks oil from the base gasket. I pulled the top end again, and this time replaced the base gasket with an OEM Kawasaki part, painted Threebond semi-drying case sealant around each stud and the cam chain tunnel. What gives?

Wrong notion.My reference was slamming a bike into 3rd gear from 5th gear at 85 mph.not sure that is a healthy thing to do, but hey,what do I know.bj
