Transmission noise was created by prosserk
so i bought a KZ 900 a few months ago and have put about 500 miles on it with no problems. then i had my clutch cable break. so i replaced it and also changed my oil at the same time. after doing this i went on a 150 mile ride and it started to make a weird noise. it sounded like a squeeling noise, but it wasn't happening all of the time and it did not make a difference what RPMs i was at. then a few days later i went for a ride and got about ten miles and it and when i was riding something happened and it felt like someone put the breaks on. when i got stopped it looked like smoke was coming out of the oil breather. when i tried to move again it almost felt like there was a brake on, but the engine would still sit there and run fine and i could shift through the gears. then when it cooled down i could ride it again but it would still make the noise randomly. i was just wondering if anyone had any ideas. thanks

ya i know i adjusted the cable right. i have a shop manual and i did it exactly like it said to in the book. my drive chain is pretty loose. probably to the point that i need to tighten it, but i will check to see if the bearing is getting bad.

I think I would pull it apart and hope that you haven't spun a bearing in the case bore. It won't get any better it will just get worse and cause more damage like striped gear teeth.

Kyle,
Has it gotten any better or worse since the time I rode it?
All, I rode it once after this started. It only made the noise, no problems/ slowing down. Once it sounded as if it was on the left ( stator ) side , the next time on the right side.
Couldn't really tell which side for sure the noise was coming from since he's running a open Kerker or Mac on it ;) And it was a quick/short 1/2 mile ride.
I loaned him a factory KZ 900 manual, and rode it after the clutch adjustment. The clutch felt fine to me when I was on it.

But as I said, this is THE PLACE to have it figured out at;)

Kyle,
What type/brand and weight of oil did you use when it was changed?

the oil was SAE 10w40, but it was a honda brand. i then dumped that out hoping that was the problem and put in regular pennsoil 10w40 and it seemed to make it better, but it is still making the noise just not as often.

You might want to check your clutch pushrod and ball. The squealing noise could be the pushrod welding itself to the ball -if the clutch adjustment is out of whack there is not enough free play between the pushrod & the ball.Hope this helps.

Kyle,
How did you figure out it's the output shaft bearing??
You can refer to the manual I loaned you for teardown. And I have MANY others IF need be.
And da' BOZ is a great guy when it comes to being anal about tearing down and putting back together. Got'a love him.
But you already know that, don't you..???
