Yes, I personally don't know when they went to iron guides. I think that I saw a post where Larry Cavanaugh stated 1979 as the year. I would definitely like to know this for future reference.

ive never seen a stock 900-1000 head with anything but iron guides myself
Still recovering,some days are better than others.
