1075cc, 10.25:1 compression, A P E .410 cams with 266 degree duration, mild street port, cams timed to I believe 110 degrees as per Greg Cope recommendation, Kerker 4-1 with no baffle,Dyna S ignition, Dyna coils.
I need to know what to expect as far as engine idle is concerned. As it is it will crank and warm up fine but as soon as you cut the choke off it dies unless it is idled up to 1500 RPM and above.

I was mainly wondering if anyone had built their engine up like this before, and what settings they may have used.
I have some 35 pilots coming soon, and still have the old 25s. I also stil have the old .9 airscrews. I am thinking it is in the carburetion, but maybe someone who has built their engine like this before has more insight. I hate to sound like a novice, but I have never had an engine this modded up before. I also do not run the factory airbox, but I used K&N pods.

Yours seems a little high but someone with a little more knowledge can chime in.

BTW, I have never gotten the hang of syncing the carbs on my KZ with vacuum guages. I simply bench-sync them with 4 ball bearings, get them to all fall through at the same time as I turn the idle adjuster in.

my problem, and i suspect yours, was with the cam timing...to make a long story short, i was 28 pins apart , but i didnt set the mark for the exhaust right at the edge of the head...itwas a little high, so i was running them out of phase....tdc wasnt really tdc....i dont know if that makes sense.....the bike ran well down the road, but wouldnt idle below like 1600...any attempt to set it lower, and it just fell like a rock and died.....i would pull the cam cover and seriously take a look at the cam timing....hope this helps.....let us know how you make out......keith

Yes, and two different sets of carbs have been tried, and the same results each time. However, so far I have used the set ups recommended by the so called pros, and that has been my results. What is being used is Mikuni 29mm smoothbores, with 120 mains, 17.5 pilots, 1.0 air screws.
I was mainly wondering if anyone had built their engine up like this before, and what settings they may have used.

29 smoothies with those jets and air screw should be just right.....i ran the same combo once i got cams straightened out and it was pretty spot on....bike ran and idled well.....

Well, Monty Campbell of California and the famed MaxiCarbs, and Maxi Dwell system, and also the best pipe money can buy for a Z1 called the Capmbell X-Pipe has given me a lot of useful tips. HIs suggestions are so far the best I have had anyone give me so far.
so where do you stand and whats the verdict?
