Kz1000 motor into a zephyr 550??

Have an opportunity to buy a motor with carbs and exhaust. Will it fit without too much modification? Anyone have any experience doing this? I know the 550 is the same as the old 80's kz550. The 1000 is a 77 and zephyr is a 91.

This would be a very VERY tight fit if at all possible . 550 motor is even smaller than the 650 and the 650/1000 conversion is a tight job.

It is possible to shoehorn a Gsxr 750 motor into a Zephyr 550 frame, but there is no room at all anywhere and that is with a lot of massaging. I belive that motor is only a little bigger than the Zr550 motor. I don't think you could put a KZ 650/750 motor into a zephyr 550 frame without a lot of trouble. A kz1000 motor would probably require the frame to be cut in half and extended etc.

The zephyr has been a pain to get right. Still won't rev past 6k. The 1000 motor is rebuilt and ready to run. Seemed fun but I'm definately not going through the work to stretch the frame. I really wanted to know if the mounts were the same. And that was all I needed.
It sure would be a fun bike.

My brother has a Zephyr 750 and you couldn't put a 1000 motor into it. The frame is completely different from the older bikes when people put 1000 motors into 650 frames. Mater of fact the frame is so tight that Kawasaki had to come up with a customized carburetor arrangement just so they could put carburetors on the Zephyr 750. If you have a good torch you can do it. Without a torch , a saw and a welder NO.
