Otherwise, yeah, that's standard KZ400 stock exhaust.

is there somewhere on the web that cross references that exhaust # (kh1400k4dgm303575) to a year/model.

more specifically, will that number indicate if it's for a KZ400D3 or KZ400D4? the D3 and D4 and look the same in the parts diagram but have different part # suffixes. (also that is the same with the KZ400A1 and KZ400A2). what are the differences if any with the D3 vs. D4 exhausts?
is there somewhere on the web that cross references that exhaust # (kh1400k4dgm303575) to a year/model. ...
Well, I can't help you on a cross reference of that number (I mean in that it's not a part number per se, but some manufacturing code), but I can tell you that I have a set that has almost exactly that number (except an I (Kawasaki Heavy Industries) instead of the 1, and an S instead of a 5, as in KHI400K4DGM30357S). Mine came from either a '75 or a '76, I think a '75.
Here's what's important: The '77A1 is mechanically similar to a '76D3. And the '78A2 is similar to a '77D4.
What changed between the A1 and the A2, or between the D3 and the D4? Most notably, the carbs. Though I never realized it before, I guess it makes sense that the exhaust could have changed to complement the intake... And since that was right around the time that the more restrictive emissions rules came in to effect, I can guess *how* it changed...
But I'm sure it didn't change *much*. So unless you're trying to build a show-ready bike, I wouldn't concern yourself too much with it.
I hope that helps...

i think you are right about the #'s. i haven't seen the pipes yet, they are being shipped as we speak.
does your bike have diaphragm or cv carbs? (i have cv's)
also is you exhaust baffle inset removable?
thanks,
paul

The diaphragms appeared on the 77D4 and the 78A2, so no diaphragms here...
The baffle is *theoretically* removable... I say this because I have actually seen replacement baffles... Though mine are so far corroded that I don't think they're coming out with anything short of extreme violence...

i guess i am being a bit fussy on id-ing the mufflers... but i just want to know the difference between the different part #'S referred to in my post with the diagram.
i am also restoring an H1 and i am amazed at the minute detail that some of the H1 owners know about such as the meaning of numbers and markings stamped on parts.
