Something I learned in my engine break in period....
Some tips I got from Plum and Larry as well...

Exhaust side gets really heated up no doubt. With this in mind, go with these specs instead for the exhaust side normally decreases this distance during the break in period and heat...

Spec is .05 to .1mm for both intake and exhaust....

Exhaust Shims: .1 to .15mm
Intake shims: .05 to .1mm

As always, followed their reasoning and experience, set accordingly and in my 500 mile re-checks, found the exhaust shim spacing had indeed decreased... Guess where they now reside...YUP, .05 to .1mm for both intake & exhaust!

Just a thought....

Appreciate the time you took to write that out. Though the shims I need are indeed set so the clearance reads .15mm EX and .1mm intake

Please be aware that making the clearances a bit larger will make the engine "hiss" a little more and they will be more likely to be "spit out" if the engine is over-revd. I am not saying it is dangerous, just to be aware. Ford, in the Yamaha powered Taurus uses even tighter tolerances than we do. When you install the new shims make sure that you lube them very well I use STP oil additive liberally on both sides. The underside, to keep the ship "glued" down and the upper-side to protect it and the cam during the initial startup.

Ill be more then happy to get this 3 way trade figured out. Though I wont be able to ship out the shims currently in my bike;
3x 2.60mm
1x 2.75mm
1x 2.70mm
1x 2.80mm

Untill I get your shims. I got no extra shims to put in as temporarys.

But, basically I'll send keith1 all of my shims except the 1x2.75mm which I will send to okotar. Keith1 will send me his 2x2.50mm shims. Keith1 will send his 2x 2.90mm and 2x 3.00mm to okotar. Okotar will send his 4x 2.55mm shims to KLD(me). Okotar will send whatever keith1 wants for his 2x 2.90mm and 2x3.00mm.

Does this sound right? If so, ill send a message to both of you with my address and you can then send me yours.

I thought I was sending the 4 x 2.55 to KDL. Why am I sending another 4 shims to Keith1? The simplest way is for me to send 4 shims (4x2.55) to you. Keith1 will send 5 shims (2x2.50, 2x2.90, 1x3.00)to you. You send 4 shims (1x2.75, 2x2.90, 1x3.00) to me and the remaining 5 (3x2.60, 1x2.70, 1x2.80) to him. Now we are all even. Make sense?
