They look pretty rough to me but the bike ran good. What do you guys think. 82LTD1000 20000 miles, the guy I bought it from ran it with pods without rejeting for a couple years. It dosnt really matter because Im ordering new pistons any way.

Gona use a different set of cylinders. 1100 bored a little and higher comp pistons. As far as the old pistons go, do they look as bad as I think they do? The bike ran good

I've got a 1977 1000 apart right now and the piston skirts are similar to yours...rephrased, the skirts have scrapes and telltales also...how did your bores look?

They look about like the pistons with #1 being the worst.

Wow my 700 is showing 19 on the clock ! Think my pistions are that bad? did the last owner not change the oil? How can you prevent that from happening after you put in the new pistions?

Those pistons are actually in very good shape. Those pistons could be re-used without any problem. All you have to do is measure them and compare them to spec. You will find out they are almost like new. If pistons are warn out they look nothing like that. I measured my pistons from my 76 900 with 55,000 miles on them and they were still well with in spec. 20,000 miles- the bike is just starting to brake in. My 81 CSR had 28,000 on them and they measured same as new.

they don't look too bad to me either.
really abused pistons have tell tale black mark scrapes on the thrust side from winding the wee out of the motor.

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

I bet that if you pulled the pistons out of a bike that had 5000 miles on it they would look the same as these do. This is one advantage of having long piston skirts. They just don't ware out.

looks to me like somebody took a scuff pad to them at some point in their career, horizontal scratches around piston skirts? look at the color of the rings ,then look at the piston skirts am i the only one seeing this? measure the pistons just for laughs and see how close they are to spec,at minimum im gonna say oil changes were few and far between B)
