750-4 custom air cleaner? was created by polkat
Often in pics on the web I have seen an air cleaner that is a single, long chrome box that attaches to all 4 carbs (and eliminates the black plastic air box). I don't know what they are called, but I like them. I have not seen them in stores, but recently I talked to a guy at a bike show, who told me that he made his own, and that making them was quite common.

Does anyone know where I can find plans for making this, or at lease a shop that sells them (rather make one)? Thanks!

Ive seen them on Ebay every now and then. I would be concerned about all that weight hanging on the back of the carbs, they've just Got to be heavier than a set of pods..

I think I recently saw one for sale at dragbike.com

+1 on weight concern. Even with pods, the lack of support that the box provided makes for a much shorter lifespan for the intake manifolds.

Here's a home-fabbed podbox.
I don't know anything about it. Just posting a pic.

Hard to believe a smallish aluminum box would be all that heavy. The manifold rubbers hold the carbs pretty tight, and it could probably be braced if necessary.

kaw-62046, that box is what I'm talking about.

KMKZHI, cool! Do you remember what website you found that on?

I'm not sure where I found that photo, but most likely it was here, KawasakiMotorcycle.org or KZ650.Info.

It's not just the box it's the carbs themselves and the box. A std the airbox is braced when assembled correctly and the carbs are braced by the engine and the box. Without bracing on both ends of the carbs they want to flop. Now add an unbraced box and you have compounded the effect. I'd brace it. Not real interested in replacing 30 year old manifold rubbers if I don't have to. They are there as a seal and not as support. Gluck!

Carbs are easy to tie-up/support. I've used a small length of pipe strapping for a concerned client. Just attached it to the carb rail, then around the center frame above.

Way overkill, but hardly noticible.

I would not just support them but brace them. So they cannot move up as well as down. But again its just my opinion. I'm sure there are reputable reports of ones not braced that have run for years with no apparent trouble. I'm not willing to chance it as I had a CB360 that I could not tighten the clamps enough to keep the carbs plugged in. It was a wreck that I got from curbside trash and it had not been babied but it was a PITA to keep those carbs in place until we braced them. Now I stay with or install stock airboxes so no more issues anyway. Your results may vary. Gluck!
