cylinder upgrade 76 KZ900 A4 too a 1000cc cylinder was created by Stormin Norman
friends; can someone help me out with this ordeal. i have a good 1000cc cylinder and want to put it on my 900.what is the best thing to do? i am told some machining is need for the sleeves to fit into the cases? and my 900 head will fit up nicely. also my 1000cc cylinder is black so not sure what year it is and the pistons are in real good shape , but will definitely verify their ok to re ring.

Everything should drop right in. Just ball hone the sleeves and I would install new rings. Since you have the top end off I would also do a complete valve job.

i'm almost posative he will need to bore the upper case

The 900 and 1000 cases should be identical.

sometimes they fit,sometimes they dont. B)

Just out of curiosity, what should the minimum sleeve to case clearance be? I had a problem some years back convincing a machinist that I needed more than his outdated Wiseco guide/jig was giving me.

what are we talking here? OD?


i helped KNight rider put a 1075 kit in his 76kz900 that took No case machining the 1015 jugs dropped right in. (they had been bored to 1075 but the OD was the same)
We started putting in a 1015 stock kit but came accross a great deal on the 1075.(after putting the 1015 kit on)
1976 kz900 in parts but will be going some day soon

Yes a stock, 1015 jug will drop right on. As long as it is not re-sleeved!

This was a painted cylinder, with a rattle can. Not a 73 Z1.
It was glass beaded. So I can repaint it all black!
Thats why you see some paint residue!

I know, I did one too. But we have all of these experts. same as I was told that i couldn't put a 1089 jug into a 998 case motor. I guess my engine did not know that :laugh: I just did not tell my engine it was not supposed to work and the block dropped with tuns of room to spare.
