You can use KZ pistons on the J model or the 81-82 GPZ, but you can't use them on the 83-84 GPZ. The 83-84 GPZ has the bathtub style combustion chambers and the valve angles are different, so you have to use pistons for the 83-84. The 83-84 GPZ also has 18mm wrist pins but MTC makes there pistons for the 83-84 GPZ with 17mm wrist pin holes. If you need the 18mm wrist pin holes they just hone them out to 18mm. Sorry I keep refering to the 83-84 GPZ, your 1100LTD head is the same. So to answer your question, you can't use the J model pistons you have. You have to order pistons for the 83-84 GPZ1100 to use that 1100LTD head you have.

That head was first used in 83 on the monoshock GPz11. The LTD got that head in 84 & 85.

The 83 LTD was plain Jane J motor. Nothing special about that one.

Can't find my old notes on the bathtub chamber heads for volume. Somebody cc one and let me know. I'll add it the KZData page with the flow and valve info.

Standard J head is 39cc and KZ is 34.5cc chamber volume.

Whenever possible, shim on top is the way to go for street bikes. GPz11 cams work fine with S.O.T. setup.

I've had KZ650 motors come through that were converted to S.O.T and run thousands of miles like that.

Cam Motion has 4 really nice grinds for S.O.T.

Jay's got the K410 grind and Web has a bunch of them.

Here's a couple Web street cam. Always check lobe clearances.

Grind lift D@.020 D@.050 D@.100

540 .384 272° 248° 222°
