Auto adjuster was all the way in. I installed a ape adjuster but it is in pretty far.

I dropped the oil pan today to clean it out and did not find anything in there very clean. the top cam guide looked good no wear. I was thinking maybe the guide in front of the cam aduster was wore. But no sight of that in the pan. Bike has 40 thousand on it

if the chain is that loose you may have broken the front chain slider pull the motor and do it right you have all winter don't use a master link in the cam chain it's not worth it in the long run. if the front slider is broken you will have to pull the head anyway.

I have the front slider. Would I not have found any pieces of it in the oil pan if it broke? I have to take the head off to get the exhaust stud welded. Was going to replace all the guides this winter, was going to order the rear guide from Ape, the web site says it is better.
Really don't want to take the engine out this year in about 3 years going to put a 1075 kit but not for a few years. I bought the kerker exhaust this year and next year the kit and the year after the head and valve work. Dam thing is expensive I have spent 4 grand already on it.

I hate to take the head off as well, scared to break a ring putting it back together with my wrenching luck but I'm going to try

I'm in Ottawa..whereabouts are you?

Never worked on a 1100, but I've done valves on my 550 a few times, and will be doing (at least checking) the valves on my 93 ZR550 soon.

..btw, unless you're taking the jugs off too, you won't have to worry about rings.. The head only has the top of the cylinders/bottom of the valves in it.

Hey thanks for the offer. I took the top end off Monday and took the head to get welded. I took the jugs off as well, they are in my over right now helping the paint to cure. I pick up the head tomorrow after lunch.

I sure could use some help with the shims I will let you know when I get it back together.

Thanks for the offer pyxen.
