Thanks for the comments everyone. The plugs look like it's running very slightly lean, so if nothing else looks amiss I think I'll let out a big sigh of relief!

What should I use to clean off the carbon before I put it back together?

Does look pretty even. I would clean out the carbon, check the cross pattern in the cylinders, go back together. I might try one larger main jet size. I'd rather foul a plug than hole a piston!

Looks better than mine when I pulled my KZ1000 apart!

Check the guides, especially the exhaust side, before you lap the valves in. If they are loose, rebuild right and you will have a sweet motor.
