anytime you buy a new chrome header buy a couple cans of high temp header paint and spray the inside of header with the paint till it runs out the other end.flip the header over a few times as your doing this to coat more of the tubes,it acts as an insulator against the heat.thats why i like black headers

Hi Plummen
If it is that easy why don't manufacturers do it?

Not saying it doesn't work.

I have a new set of Mac headers to fix on a 750ltd and I will give it a try.

True enough but most people buy after market headers rather than manufacturers. Maybe they have a cartel?
