I am pulling the cams out of my 82 LTD so I can take the head off, if I buy some J cams would installing them be the same as putting my LTD cams back? Could I just put them in and get an easy hp increase, or would I have to degree them, whatever that means?

Are 1100 Spectre cams compatible with my 1000? Are Spectre cams the "J" cams?

you won't gain hardly any going with j cams what you need are gpz cams they are about .380 lift stock where your cam's are .320 lift. by the way your motor is a j motor if it is the original motor

I know it is a J motor, but I thought that the LTD cams were lower duration (or something like that). The KZ1000J hp according to the service manual is 102, my LTD (K2) says 95 hp. If I found a set of GPz1100 cams could I just put them in? do they have the same markings on the sprockets so that I could follow the instructions in the manual?

You do not HAVE to degree any cams. If you are using factory cams and sprockets, you can just fling them in there. If you are using performance cams and want their full potential, then degreeing is a good idea, but you will need adjustable sprockets and some fairly specialized tools, like a degree wheel, top dead center locating tool, an accurate dial gauge and such. There are at lest a couple of discussion threads about this, and I beleive Web Cams has a pretty good explanation of the procedure on its website. www.webcamshafts.com/

Would the "J" cams from the standard version of my bike not just be "factory cams" as you said though? This is what I am wondering, if I could just drop in the J cams as if they were originally in my bike.

BUDA, I didn't get those other eBay cams cause I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to just drop them in. Did you just put them in as if they were there in the first place? the marks on the sprocket were the same?

If my assumption that the higher performance "J" cams can just be dropped in since they are "factory" cams, would this apply to GPz cams as well? How about the Spectre cams I linked above, would they work, or are they lower lift like mine LTD cams.

I think I said "cam" a hundred times there!

Yes , I bought mine without the sprockets so I just changed the sprockets over.
I think the gpz cams are a drop in deal as well, some one will know for sure.

I read about the GPz's and I believe they are particularly peaky...I don't want to lose all driveability so I may stick to the "J"ones since they are a big improvement as you say, but aren't straight up race cams.

Does anyone know about the Spectre cams in the link? they are nice and cheap!

Standard J model cams are a little hotter than the LTD cam.

The GPz11 cams are closer to the cams OMR has in his bike. You'd probably like them in your LTD.

Larry, would the GPz11OO cams still be civilized enough to take my woman out a couple times a week, or would I be burning the clutch at every intersection? That's kind of the thing I am worried about since I am now used to the freight train coming on @ 3000 rpm. Secondly, would these GPz's be a drop in deal like I have been hopeing? Or will putting them in be a big ordeal? Thirdly, are the Spectre cams same as the J cams, or are they castration city like my LTD cams...?
