Snapped a Bolt was created by davehayward1
Removing the exhaust from my '81 KZ 750 LTD (H$) I snapped the thread off the bolt that secures the exhaust pipe collar to the block
Can't tell if it is screwed into the block or molded
If it's screwed in, I'm thinking I can unscrew it with vice grips.
Might have to tap it with a hammer as I'm exerting counterclockwise pressure
Has anyone ever seen this done?

Before you take a chance on snapping it off even shorter, soak it for a day or two with Kroil. Ed

Dave, Do EVERYTHING you can to ease removal while you still have a stub to work with, IE; multiple applications of penetrating oil, sharp raps w/hammer, and as crappy as it makes the job, bring eng. to temp. by running. It may be overkill, but, once stud is broken flush at head. things get ugly. Luck g

Thanks to you both. There's plenty of stud to work with so hopefully it'll come out. I'll take it easy. Thanks for the words of warning
I checked the Z1 site and I'll be damned if they don't have it!
Sometimes you just have to sit back and wonder - what did we do before the internet came along?
Maybe you can help with my current issue
I'm trying to get the "clutch basket" off, which is secured with a 30mm locknut.
I'm using a "clutch holding tool", 30mm deep socket, and 15" breaker bar.
Should turn clockwise to loosen - - no?
Not making any headway (in either direction)
Suggestions?
Thanks again

Oops! The "Z1" reference was intended for someone else who referred me to

These guys stock the replacement exhaust port stud

Looks like a pretty good spot for parts. You might want to save it

Nothing beats air impacts for getting those clutch nuts off (also the countershaft nut that holds the front sprocket on). Oh, the thread on that nut is standard thread, lefty loosey, so turn counter clockwise to remove.

if you don't have a air impact gun then go to harbour freight or tractor supply and pickup a 1/2" electric impact it will peel that nut and anyother nut right off. turn counterclockwise it has right hand thread if your use hand tools on things like that for removal your trying to too many things at once and wrenches will slip people can get hurt and many expensive parts can break or get damaged. try to use the proper tool for the job that is why us pro's have so much money invested in tool's. if your in canada the go to canadian tire this weekend they are having a sale on electric impacts with a full three year warrenty do you self a favor all off you should buy one and you wont have problems in the future removing nuts or bolt air is great but not every body has a compressor but everybody has 110 household current you will be impressed with the power. i used one for 8 winters working in oil patch up here when it was sometimes 40 below zero and it never failed me.

Dave, Perhaps I'm missing the big picture...But on my '77 1000 cl basket removal means splitting cases. else I would have had a billet basket months ago. curious g
