GOT HER ON THE ROAD!!!!

HOLY SH*T!

And yeah, I used engine assembly lube in cam bearing races, valve shims, etc...
No more smoke from exhaust after about two miles of riding...still some from the crankcase breather, but I'll keep letting it work itself out hopefully. I still have some hesitation in low rpm's but I think that's a pilot jet issue?? I'll post in the carb section and see what people say....
After I give it a few more miles I'm gonna re-torque everything in the head: cam chain guide assembly, valve cover, etc...
Thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way. I'll post some pics soon...

oh and PS: cranked the exhaust nuts down and the clicking got better... not quite gone, but way better...

you want a good seal if not later down the road you could chip a valve like i did and ended up replacing a sleeve piston and valve just because a bad exhaust stud.

excuse my ignorance, but how did you chip a valve and do that much damage from a loose exhaust stud?

Kano - I finally figured out why your name is so familiar, I've seen it everytime I needed to loosen a stuck bolt:

i surely don't know it all but i would like to add this much. assembly lube or not USE OIL THAT HAS 'ASH' IN IT or a additive specifically designed for rebuilt engines. the govnt. made the oil mfgrs. remove the ash a few years ago and we are now seeing the results. i was at my builders this past saturday and he showed me a follower/lifter that had just 20 miles on it. the cam side of it was worn OFF atleast 3/8". the mating cam lobe was about completely gone. the customer used assembly lube only. [new cam & followers] this lack of ASH in oils is causeing problems like this all over. in the automotive as well as M/C. anything that has NON roller type lifters. the builder says he is starting to see this sort of thing on a weekly bases.
so BEWARE !!! Oveahead valve engines utilizing adjustment shims are no different.

You can by the zinc-phosphorous additives now from ZDDPlus which will restore motor oil protection to previous levels.

so I'm guessing you can no longer find any motor oils that contain ash?
