clicking?? was created by Bicycle Lee
So we fired the motor for the first time since we took it off the engine stand and put it in the frame. fired up easily enough, but I noticed a "clicking" noise coming from the 1&2 side of the motor...
it didn't have it when it was on the stand... could manhandling the thing to get it in the frame cause anything to jar loose?
Anyone have any ideas of what it could be?

hmmmm... I don't know if it is that... I'll tighten the nuts and see if it gets better...
tomorrow, I ride!

I also have some smoke? coming out of my crankcase breather? Is that normal? If not, what could cause that?

I think bountyhunter meant the copper gaskets that go between the pipe and the head.

normally exhaust leaks get described as a ticking,
i have had this before,
start up your old girl
and while its running pinch up exhaust studs till it go's away, ;)
if it doesn't you may need to double up the copper rings.

is this a fresh topend job and if so have you run it at all other than starting it sounds like it is due to the rings not fully seated. giveit some time and it should quit when the motor is broken . does the exhaust smoke as well.

yeah, new rings, new valves, port work...
I've run it a little bit on an engine stand, but maybe a total of twenty minutes.
the exhaust does smoke as well, but that probably has something to do with there being oil in the old headers too... I'll just give it some more breaking in and see if it quits...

As I learned the hard way (Verbal Spanked by Plummen & Larry C  ) did you use Engine Pre Lube up in the head?

Also, if my memory is correct, another member just went through something similar and it was the top idler assembly bolts where his problem, clicking on the valve cover...

As already mentioned, smoke is normal during break in periods...

Don't forget... 50 miles then change oil and filter...;)
