OK, I am fried. I just finished replacing my valve seals which was a big job for me. It took me almost a month because I took a vacation in the middle. I spent a lot of time cleaning and painting as I went. I finally got it all together tonight, checked everything (I thought) 2x.

when I finally went to start it, I decided to use the kick to save on the battery, and I expected it to start hard until the gas made it through the pump and the injectors.

However, when I pull in the clutch there is no compression or back pressure on the kick start. If I just kick it over, without the clutch, then I can hear everything moving. when I try the starter, it all turns over, but, of course, it doesn't start. i didn't try very long to save the battery.

there must be a wire I missed or something that got disconnected when I was working. My mind is fried right now because I have been really pushing to get this done this week before the kids go back to school (transportation issues).

Any thoughts on where to start looking? Thanks in advance. There are several cold beers waiting in Iowa for the help.

With the clutch lever pulled in,you're disengaging the clutch from the engine, and the kickstarter grabs at the clutch,so...you won't be turning the engine over with the lever pulled in.
Have you checked to see if you're getting spark to the plugs?

Check all the basics. Fuel delivery, compression, spark. If you have them all, it should go. Missing one, there's your problem. Don't over think it. Keep it simple and you will find the problem.

Dale,

I've been there chasing electrical gremlins around in circles....If you're fried, drink one of those beers, go to bed and tackle it when you're fresher.

Good luck!

sounds like a plan. I have all weekend to figure it out.

I thought that the clutch had to be pulled in to start it. Like a lock out? Is that only for the electric start?

Ok, I know I should have waited but I couldn't.

a few kicks and the electric start, back and forth, and it finally started. :woohoo:

then it over reved and I had to kill it. I need to set the idle, obviously.

I just didn't have enough fuel in the system with the pump, the manifold and the injectors.

I feel like a dork. I guess it's been a while since I used the kick start....

thanks again. Beers all around. Call me when you're ready.

(big sigh of relief).
