What header Model # to get was created by KZ1100 Bully
Hi, not sure what header to buy a Vance & Hines or a kerker. The engine is stock right now but will be installing a 1075 kit in a few years. So this will be the first part of the rebuild this year.

Can some one tell me what model will fit my bike and what kind of a baffle would be best to use.

Really leaning to a kerker right now just not sure what to buy!

Thanks

I've had Kerker's on my old 77 KZ1000 and now on my 82 GPZ1100. Supertrapp makes the Kerker system now and I believe it's part # 127-61004 $584.00 in black.

www.z1enterprises.com and possibly www.redlinecycle.com can get you exhaust systems.

Thanks, from what I have been reading no real difference between the two systems Vance and kerker.

The Vance one can use a comp baffle is that a good Idea for street use?

Dynoman out of Texas had the best pricing I could fine for the Kerker... They also sell V&H exhaust... Competion baffles for either are available...

dynoman.net/exhaust/kerker-apps.html

I run the 1.5" comp baffle in my Kerker, regarding performance and sound, nothing better... I know, I know...
Not too loud or obnoxious on the street.. Same time, open highway, twist the throttle and the sound level does increase & is just mesmerizing... B)

As for the fittings, no problems what so ever... I have access to both the drain plug and oil filter so you don't have to remove the exhaust on oil changes. The exhuast comes with a rear installtion mountng kit to the OEM swingarm...

In removing the stock baffle, a little tight to get out due to the Kerker emblem rivots on the inside of the exhaust...

I used a dremel to take the deepest one in down a little and with a wood dowel, tapped her out from the other side just nicely. Installing the baffle was a breeze...

In my research, V&H has some issues where the header to exhaust had to be worked (dremeled) for fitting... I also found where some of the chroming was flaking on them... Maybe the V&H team has worked these issues out....

All in all, for an additional $150, Kerker was the way to go... Actually I would have went this way anywas for it was a sound I fell in love with 30 years ago so my destiny was set for my build...

Kerker is clearly the traditional choice.

V&H is less expensive and, I understand, lighter, but lately V&H has apperantly had some quality control and supply difficulties.

There are other options as well. If you are ok with used, you might be able to come across Bassani or Yoshimura. They are rare and highly sought after.

You may also want to consider -

Laser used to make a sexy stainless system, but I have not seen it on their website in quite a while. Wouldn't cost much to ask. They do market a meg system, though - www.laser-exhausts.com/cgi-bin/shopper.c...ry=1656&keywords=all

Happy shopping.

Thanks for the help guys. I have decided to buy a kerker with a 1.5" comp baffle.

I take it as long as it says it will fit a KZ1000J it will fit at the head of a KZ1100 spectre? Will Maybe have to fab something to mount at the rear of the bike.

Going to be a long winter!
