Frozen KZ 1000 engine was created by fandango
I have a frozen 1980 kz1000 engine still in the bike. The PO said it`s been in a storage for 10 years. His explanation seemed plausible because the carbs are frozen, brakes are frozen too.

I poured oil to the head and let it sit for a couple days.I put it in gear and try to loosen up.(I took off the brakes,so it would be free to roll.)Nothing happening. You guys have some ideas what else should I try without taking apart?

It may be silly, but I take it that you tried, in neutral, turning it by hand applying a wrench to the crankshaft, and you removed the spark plugs to eliminate compression. Right?

I'd try some PB or other rust eater. If all else fails it may be time to pop the top and tap them lightly with a rubber mallet.

I would try and get it broke loose before tearing it down. Roy

Not that I am recommending this but...

A friend of mine bought a siezed bike from a local shop for 50 bucks. I believe it was an older Honda CB. He took it home and tried a rope to it and had a buddy pull it behind his truck. He popped it into gear and it broke free. Without changing the oil he simply added some to it and rode back to the shop and smoked the tire off in their parking lot! This happens to be a guy that rides machines until they die and then leaves them one the side of the rode (so to speak). Like I said, I am not recommending this method but it can work.

kztee that is good one I keep that as a last chance.

roy I`m trying to get it loose without tearing apart, but I might have to introduce the mallet to him on certain areas.

I did this oil trick before always worked, but not with this.It may be not just frozen.

next step I will try that marvel mystery oil.

Thanks

I just broke my kz900 engine loose after about a year of soaking.

A piece of soft wood and a mallet moves it around pretty well now. That's after taking the head off and lightly tapping the piston tops one at a time... A couple of times a day for about a week freed 'em up.

Pore about one oz of Marvel Mystery oil into each spark plug hole and let it sit for a few days. Put a wrench on the crank shaft and try to wiggle it back and forth until it pops. I would be very careful about banging on top of the pistons. You might misalign the crank shaft. If you do it, use a rubber mallet and tap it gently.

Only engine I ever "helped" free up we used Marvel Mystery Oil and let it sit a couple days. Still had to tear it down but the MMO really worked.

Another good rust penetrator is Kroil.

One place to put a wrench and get some real serious pull is on the flywheel nut. That's a big ass nut that takes over 100 ft-lbs to torque down so you could put a wrench on it and tap the end with a hammer or just hop on it with your foot. It's a left hand thread on mine.

That 17mm nut on the end of the crankshaft by the points is not intended to take a lot of torque. The one on the flywheel sure is.
