for a cheap clutch holding tool you can use a tiedown strap. The end without the ratchet or buckle. You use the hook end and attach it to the frame. Then use the other end wrap it around the clutch hub in a way that as you loosen the nut you tighten the strap or counter clockwise around the clutch basket. Then use a set of vise grips to hold the strap to the basket. Then the basket will be held in position then get a long 1/2 inch ratchet and give it a good solid jolt.

My neighbor has a clutch holding tool made from four clutch plates tack welded together sid by sid with a piece of squre tubing across them offset from center so the nut can be accessed. A bar goes into the tubing to hold the basket. I liked it so much he had one made for me.

What are you doing that requires you to remove the clutch hub?

pull out plug in #1 make sure the piston is on its way up on the compression stroke....now fish a piece of soft 1/4 " nylon cord (rope ) into the cylinder....enough so the piston cant pass tdc...I would only do this if I was stuck...but I have done it and it has worked
