Valves are not seating well at all. If the cam was in wrong, they are probably bent too much to seat.

At DTC (1 & 4 pistons) should be up in the cylinder. Note the cam lobe orientations.

Confirm the cam sprocket intake & exhaust dimples as well... Very important! ;)

Deleted image... found some literature where the 900 would be different than the 1000... sorry about that but the concept still holds true for sprocket dimples and cam lobe directions....

Follow the manual! ;)

Thanks for all the information. Pulled head off and found all four intake valves were bent (I mean BENT!) Will have to get new ones and possibly guides and rebuild her ourselves. Will be looking for someone local to put in guides. Will definitely be back here to ask questions and get some more good info. as we do the rebuild. :pinch:

I still have all four brand new guides for my 750 twin I didn't need from my rebuild. I don't know if they fit your engine. If they do, I'll dump them cheap.

All 4 intake valves bent.... Ouch!! :pinch:

Out of curiosity & learning experience for all (other than Larry & Plummen), was the intake cam indeed out 180?

Or did you find some other issues that would explain....

Sorry to hear this for you....

EDIT: Missed it the first time, found where you wrote 180 out....
